Are you looking for self-confidence in all the wrong places?

Posted By Fleur Chambers

Welcome to our Happiness Today, Not Tomorrow fortnightly offering for people who are brave and bold and ready to take skilful action each day to break free from “the trance of busy” so that they can enjoy this one precious life.

Yes, that’s you.

You are reading this because you are ready to be more than simply busy.

This offering includes

  • 1 new guided meditation (19 mins)
  • 1 simple mindfulness practice (2 minute)
  • 1 everyday jewel - a simple idea to transform an ordinary moment into a moment for happiness, fulfillment and wellbeing (1 minute)

These offerings act like a mini-retreat from your busy day, a way to quieten the external noise so you can see yourself and your life more clearly.

From here, you will feel inspired to take skilful and wise action towards happiness and fulfilment and away from busyness and overwhelm.

Today’s Topic - Are you looking for self-confidence in all the wrong places?

In this crazy modern world we often think that we will experience a greater sense of confidence if we achieve more and if our successes are noticed and praised by others. In truth, when we measure our own sense of confidence by our external achievements or by how others see us, we set ourselves up for disappointment and an ongoing experience of not feeling enough.

Sure, we may experience a momentary rush of confidence and satisfaction as we complete that tricky job, get everything on our “To Do” list done or receive some passing praise, but this moment of confidence is short lived as we turn our attention to the next thing we want to achieve, or the next person we are seeking approval from. And so the cycle of chasing confidence continues.

I’m guessing you can relate to these ideas? You may even be smiling at how this sounds a little like you?

So where do we find our sense of inner confidence then?

Interestingly, if we allow ourselves the opportunity to slow down, to let go of the struggle to always achieve more, to be more, to have more, we begin to realise that confidence is actually an inside job. That is, confidence lives in our inner world, not our external environment.

You know where I’m going with this don’t you…….yep…..when we sit in meditation, we grow in confidence.

Today’s Meditation - Growing inner confidence

Listen Here

When we sit in meditation, when we connect with the parts of us who are more than simply busy, we can connect with the deeper layers within us. Here we meet our self  who is naturally and deeply confident. Are you ready to meet this part of you in today’s practice? If so, listen to this awesome meditation that will have you feeling confident and ready to greet the world, from the inside out.

Today’s Mindful Moment - Standing strong - the body language of confidence

Countless studies highlight the power of body language and posture for increasing self-confidence.

Take a moment now to stand with confidence.

Allow your shoulders to drop away from your ears

Notice how this naturally encourages your chest to feel open

Lifting your chest (and your heart) ready to greet the world

Soften across your eyes

Soften your jaw

Embrace a half smile

Take a few breaths here, and notice how this shift in posture encourages a shift in your perspective and awareness.

Perhaps you notice feeling a little more peaceful, a little more open or willing.

Notice what confidence feels like for you.

Notice how you can feel confident whilst being perfectly still.

Today’s Ordinary Jewel - Confidence in Stillness

When you notice yourself getting caught in cycles of busyness, or needing to get that next thing done or to arrive at that next destination (physically or metaphorically), pause, take a deep breath and say to yourself.

“Right here, right now, I am enough. Right here, right now, is exactly where I am meant to be”.

Notice how getting off the “doing treadmill” even if just for a moment allows you to feel more calm, accepting and peaceful. This is inner confidence.

Perhaps you know someone who is awesome but they need a little reminder. If you do, please send this to them so they too can learn to look for confidence in all the right places. They can sign up here.

Write and let me know what inner confidence looks and feels like to you. Just a few words is all I need!

Time is precious, and I am grateful that you chose to spend this time with me.
